About Us
World War II June 2nd, 2010TheWWIISoldier.org is a veterans project to tell the story of WWII through personal accounts, letters, photos, and artifacts.
Over the years, I’ve collected 100′s of photos of honorable soldiers whose memory was not important enough to be saved and treasured by their family. These “adopted” airmen earned a special place in my heart, as I view them as the forgotten soldiers of WWII – the men whose stories will never be told.
My grandfather, in his own way, was one of these mystery soldiers. He gave me a scrapbook of photographs, and some personal accounts of other men in his unit only weeks before he passed away, but his actual service is mostly a mystery to me. Over the years, I learned that his story was not dissimilar to many other children and grandchildren who were trying to assemble the puzzle pieces about family members who served as part of the greatest generation.
To honor these soldiers whose legacy may never be truly known, I have created this website. I would like to invite you to share your own stories and photographs.
